Well, it is November now! Where has the year gone? With our stomachs full of candy from our children's Halloween baskets (shhh! Don't tell them!), it is now time to turn our attention to the elections. No matter who wins, something will have to be done to fix all of the problems we currently face. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are continuing to cost millions or billions of dollars to fight, the bailout of the excessive greed of our banking leaders, the drop in oil prices, the media's insistence that we are in a depression, social security and Medicare going bankrupt, etc. With all of these issues, who would WANT to be president? No matter how you slice it, taxes are definitely going up to pay for all of these messes. Will capital gains rates and dividends still be at 15% a year from now? What will be the top tax rates? Will AMT ever be indexed for inflation? And, don't forget about the estate taxes. Will they raise the top rates for estate and gift taxes? Will they do away with it all together? With so many issues to be addressed in the coming months, now, more than ever, you need quality, competent, INFORMED professionals looking out for your best interests. Also, for Oklahoma taxpayers that owe any kind of taxes to the state, we are currently in the "Clean Slate '08" window. NOW is the time to either pay your taxes in full, penalty free, or to make payment arrangements on any taxes that accrued prior to January 1, 2008. If you don't take advantage of this opportunity by November 14, 2008, they will double the amount of penalties and interest on any taxes owed, retroactive to the original due date!
